![]() Have you heard of “The Swap Shop?” Yeah, I hadn’t either and it was less than a mile from my house! Are you doing your very belated spring cleaning, working on those 4-H projects, or looking at all the stuff left over after a garage sale? Keep in mind The Pottawattamie County Recycling Center just outside Oakland. For those of you who have never been there, they have places you can dump tires, scrap metal, appliances, etc. (yes, there is a fee), but possibly the coolest part is that they have what’s called The Swap Shop. You can drop off anything people can still use (for free) – like shoes, toys, bikes, paint, golf clubs, glass windows, books, furniture, whatever and they will re-sell it for cheap! If you’ve ever been to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, it’s very much like that. And I had no idea it was even there which made me realize you probably didn’t either! I had heard there was something out there, but I didn’t really know how it worked, and sometimes that keeps me from stopping in, but a friend suggested that I check it out and tell all of you about it. I’m so glad I did. There will be a load headed from our house ASAP! Hopefully, we don’t return home with anything, but I can’t make any promises. I love a good bargain! If you do, too, and you have a kid headed to college or need just a little paint for that 4-H project or just enjoy the fun of “discovering,” they can hook you up with lots of options! There really is something for everyone out there! The best part is that it serves 2 purposes – it offers a place for people to get rid of their stuff and it offers a place for people to get stuff cheaply! Win-Win! They are open Tuesday – Saturday 8am to 4pm. If you want to read more info on fees and what they take, click here.
