If you’re like me, you’ve thought about Father’s Day a ton of times, but you haven’t actually done anything about it yet! Oops! Well, no worries, I’ve got you covered. Shop fast. Shop local!
Dads and meat go together (at least in rural Iowa lol)! My first thought is to get him steak! And believe it or not, you can approach that with different methods. Is he a griller? Buy him some local beef at Gress Locker in Hancock or Minden Meat Market and then head to The Bar’N and Grill in Carson for some of their Bar’N Dust rub. He’ll be living the dream! Of course, if he’s more a man of going out than making his own, I can’t help but say you need to grab a gift card from The Pink Poodle in Crescent and they’ll make him some prime rib he won’t forget or a card from The Dew Drop Inn in McClelland for the best burger around! But if he’s more of a jerky man, think Jack Links in Underwood or Jon’s Naturals for some Wagu in McClelland. And what goes with meat? Beer! Lol. If he’s looking for a good place to find a happy hour, take him to The Station in Hancock, Tailgators in Oakland, The I-80 Sports Lounge in Underwood, The Back 40 in Macedonia, The Exchange Lounge in Avoca, or Silos in Treynor. If he’s a beer sign or beer keg tapper-kind-of-guy, they have every collectable known to God and man in Walnut! Hit The Granary Antique Mall or Plum Krazy (The place even smells like bacon! It doesn’t get more “dad” than that!). What else makes me think of dads? Golf. My dad is all about cows, but if your dad is more about a good round of cussing and Titlests, pick up a round or two at one of the local golf courses for him to check out. The Treynor Recreation Area, the Oakland-Riverside Golf Course, the Country View Golf & Grille, and Quail Run in Neola all have greens calling his name! And speaking of greens, maybe your dad is all about his yard! Does he need that new weed eater, leaf blower, or pruners? Head to AgriVision in Macedonia. They have EVERYTHING even the collectable mini tractors and implements so grandpa can have a matching one with his grandson! Looking to go even bigger and win the “best daughter/son” title, they can set you up with a whole new mower, too, at AgriVision or Nelson Outdoor Power in Treynor. Then again, maybe your dad’s baby is his car. NAPA Auto Parts in Oakland has car washing kits, air fresheners, and every accessory he could want, or just simply buy him some car wash tokens at Riverside Auto Wash in Oakland, The Finish Line Car Wash in Carson, Rock ‘N Suds Car Wash in Treynor, or get the full detailing service at Anderson Auto-Detailing in Shelby. Or if you simply prefer to give him the gift of your time, why not head to the Walnut Antique Walk this weekend or buy tickets for the Carson Rodeo the first week in August? You won’t be sorry you spent the time. I know I never am. Happy Father’s Day Weekend!
