So guess what? Pottawattamie County is now designated as the Trails Capital of Iowa!
The powers that be with WattaWay have named 14 different trails for you to follow in Pott. County, much like the Pork Tenderloin Trail the Iowa Pork Producers put together or the Passport Program in Nebraska.
Earlier this week, I got to take part in a Pottawattamie County Launch Party for the new designation and we made stops at a few of the venues on the newly labeled trails. CB, of course, had things on each of the trails, but we also made our way to Macedonia, where the Main Street has places that are on 5 different trails! I got to ride with some bloggers and journalists that had never been to our area, and it was fun to see them take in what we have to offer. Perhaps it was even a little shocking to a non-rural person how special the area is. I also got to lunch at The Station in Hancock with these folks. It was fun to show off the down-home feeling you get here without losing the high-quality eats! They were impressed with the menu, for sure. We got a great photo at the spider-car, too! Roadtrippers had nothing on us! Lol. Our final stop before heading back to CB was at Penny’s Visions in Neola. Russ made all the bronze eagle sculptures spread throughout Pott. Co. and Penny restores paintings, paints, helps make Russ’ molds, and still manages to find time to teach classes to kids and adults. I couldn’t be more impressed!
We have so much to offer! We’d like for Pottawattamie to be a destination, not merely a fly-over area. I think we all love our home-territory and want people to see what we see! If I had to guess, I bet a lot of you have been to some of the places on the list and could share your rave comments about them. I’d also bet there are a lot of the places on the list that you actually haven’t been to because we kinda get in our routines and miss the highlights we have right in front of us.
Whether you’ve hit them all or have a few yet to see, I hope you take a little time to swing by again or put them on that summer bucket list! It’s just another way you can #SupportLocal!
