Labor Day Weekend in Pottawattamie County can only mean one thing: Hoo Doo Days!
You can “Peace, Love, and Hoo Doo” all weekend in Neola! This year, there are 3 days of live music, 3 days of beer gardens, and 4 days of fun!
Events kick off Friday night with an ice cream social from 7-9pm and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” outside at sunset on the corner of 3rd and Front Streets. Bring your chairs and blankets and camp out for a family-friendly good time!
Saturday, you can catch the 3-on-3 basketball tournament or the bike ride. Both start at 9. A vendor fair will also be going on all day on 3rd St. from 9am to 3pm with the accompanying Beer Garden from 11am to 10pm. Plus, The Blue Moon will be hosting Finding Dixie both Saturday and Sunday afternoon! The evening brings the teen dance from 8 to 11pm and the adults can hear The Humdingers play from 6 to 9pm.
Things really heat up by Sunday with the Hoo Doo Hustle 5K at 8am or the softball tourney at 9, or for all of you who prefer to eat over run, the Pancake Breakfast will be held at the NACC. The Lions Club puts on quite the breakfast though with pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy, and applesauce! Keeping with the weekend sports theme, watch the volleyball tournament at 11. The family fun also starts at 11am with the kiddie tractor pull (with a very impressive tractor trophy for the winner) followed by the kiddie water wars at noon, but the whole community can join in for the water fight from noon to 2 or stay a little drier and do sidewalk chalk drawing from 11 to 5.
Possibly one of the highlights of the weekend is the scavenger hunt that kicks off at 2! Scout the town for a crazy list of things to find! And it’s even more fun if you’ve already hit the beer garden which is open from 11 to 5 with the Ledd Peppers playing from 2 to 5pm. Rumor has it they will also be having daily cornhole tournaments in the beer garden, too. Get your practice in now!
I, myself, would love to take pics at the beard and hot wing-eating contest at 4! See who has the most interesting beard and who can put the wings back! Lol.
I also think the firemen’s dinner from 5 to 7 sounds like a good way to get out of cooking and you can dance off the calories from 8 to midnight with music by The 70’s Band.
But believe it or not, there’s still a full day of entertainment on Monday! The parade begins at 11 followed by the Loess Hills Country Cloggers and the carnival rides with food vendors, bingo, a car show, and, as usual, the beer garden with the super fun Polka Police playing from 4 to 6pm.
How should you do the weekend? You should Hoo Doo it!
People, it is off-the-charts full of fun! Neola goes all out for Hoo Doo, it’s the event of the year! As lazy as you may be after the kick-off to the school year, you won’t be sorry if you roll out for the Hoo Doo fun!
Also, be sure to check out all the sponsors and volunteers! It is crazy impressive how many folks go out of their way to make this weekend happen! As always, #SmallTownLifeIsTheBestLife! #PottawattamieLoyal #SeeIowa #PottCounty #LaborDayWeekendFun
